Silverfish get their names from the color many of the species have. Many people see them as a blue or silver color while others can be gray or brown. They move in a manner that looks like they sway side to side like a fish swimming.
Silverfish do not spread disease or bite but they will damage paper goods, dry foods, and clothing. They are nocturnal and come out at night to feed.
Silverfish are usually found around the sink, bathtubs, or showers. They love humidity and can be found in cracks and crevices of walls and furniture too. They will often hang out in cardboard boxes as well which is a common method for transporting them into a home.
Ticks are notoriously long-lived and can live as long as three to five months in each stage without feeding. In Florida, the cycle can occur year-round both inside houses and in outside kennels and dog runs. Within the infestation is discovered and addressed, the easier it will be to control. Monitoring and grooming dogs, particularly upon return from kennels or locations where other dogs are present, is the best way to detect infestations early.
